Possessing a voice of uncommon lyric beauty, Mexican tenor Raúl Hernández is fast becoming recognized as one of the most gifted interpreters of the Bel Canto repertoire. He is unique in his ability to combine a natural and easy stage presence with a passionate and rich vocal timbre which is at once sensual and sincere. He has recently debuted at the Liceu of Barcelona and the Metropolitan Opera House (MET) in the role of Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto) and Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at the MET. He is well known for his amorous and fiery Alfredo (La Traviata) Teatro Real de Madrid, Kentucky Opera, Manitoba Opera, Opera de Quebec, Opera Lyra Ottawa, Florentine Opera, Milwaukee, Atlanta Opera and his compassionate and steadfast Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) Austin Lyric Opera, New York City Opera but he confesses that he also deeply enjoys the subtle challenges of the 'bad boy' Duke of Mantua (which he has sung throughout the world to much acclaim): New York City Opera, Kentucky Opera, Opera Pacific, Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Glimmerglass Opera, Teatro de Bellas Artes (México), Orlando Opera, Baden-Baden Festival (transmitted in Europe by the ZDF TV), Seattle Opera and Theater Liceu de Barcelona.
Mr. Hernández has delighted audiences in several performances of the Count of Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) Teatro de Bellas Artes (México), Austin Lyric Opera, Zürich Opera, Orombello (Beatrice di Tenda) Zürich Opera and Tour in München, Stuttgart and Dortmund with Edita Gruberova, Ernesto (Don Pasquale) Düsseldorf and Guadalajara, Tebaldo (I Capuleti e I Montecchi) New York City Opera, Nemorino (L'Elisir d'Amore) Edmonton Opera, Teatro de Bellas Artes (Méx.), Highlights of Des Grieux (Manon) Bolshoi Opera, Arturo (I Puritani) Teatro Comunale di Bologna on tour in Japan, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova and München Stadt Oper, Rodolfo (La Bohème) Glimmerglass Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera), Faust (Faust) Shaker Mountain Festival, and Edgard (French) in Glimmerglass Opera .
He has sang also Orombello (Beatrice di Tenda) with Edita Gruberova in Dresden, Fenton (Falstaff) in The Karajan Festival in Baden-Baden and Nemorino (L'Elisir d'Amore) in Bergamo Italy in the Teatro Donizetti, Gennaro in (Lucrezia Borgia) in the Teatro Regio di Torino, recently he sang Don Ottavio for the "Festival del Centro Historico" in Mexico City
Mr. Hernández makes an easy transition from the operatic stage to the concert stage, and has delivered moving performances of Mozart's "Requiem," and "Messa Brevis," Handel's "Messiah," Rossini's "Stabat Mater," Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Verdi's "Requiem," Orff's "Carmina Burana" and "Catulli Carmina," and many others. As a recitalist, Mr. Hernandez is known especially for his soulful renditions of the music of the Latin American composers.
